Why California Democrats Keep Violating Their Own Rules

Another California Democrat has been caught breaking their own rules. Diana Becton, the district attorney of California’s Contra Costa County, violated her state and local coronavirus regulations after hosting a wedding reception in her Bay Area backyard. Becton’s office was a part of a task force cracking down on violators of state and county coronavirus guidelines. Do as I say but not as I do, right?

According to newly released reports, Becton had told neighbors “20-30” extra cars would be parked around her house on August 1, 2020. Dozens of people from different households gathered for the event violating local and state gathering laws. While guests were wearing masks and social distancing, the serving of food and alcohol, along with live music, violated state and local regulations. The reception occurred while her county was being monitored for a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“She would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to not know that our governor and our state health officials have strongly discouraged, and at times banned, gatherings of any size. We do take these complaints very seriously,” said Harmeet Dhillon, CEO of the Center for American Liberty.

Becton told the San Francisco Chronicle that she had a wedding reception in her backyard but “did not know” that it violated any rules at the time. “I had a wedding in my yard that was really based upon the love that we shared. I hope that I did not do anything that was in violation of any rules. If I did, it certainly was not my intent,” she said.

Dhillon called the democrat’s remark “tone-deaf” and “crass” since every civilization and community in the world celebrates marriage with a gathering. Becton’s actions make the list of other California politicians who’ve violated COVID-19 orders while touting the orders for everyone else to follow.

Both Gov. Gavin Newsom and San Francisco London Breed have been caught dining out against their own stay-at-home orders. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opened up a restricted salon in San Francisco to get her hair done. Then there’s San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo who tried to persuade everyone to cancel their family holiday plans then went over to his own Thanksgiving gathering.

Bay Area lawyer Steph DiFazio said Becton was just the latest on breaking COVID-19 regulations. He pointed out that every lawmaker caught has scrambled up some way to either deny it or say what they did was okay. He referenced Gov. Newsom who hid many details about his dinner party, such as saying it was outside or that everyone wore masks. “Becton is still saying it was okay since no guest got COVID-19 from there,” DiFazio said.

It’s safe to say that even our hypocritical leaders see how unreasonable and unnecessary these restrictions are since they can’t even follow it themselves. That’s not only the sign of a bad leader, but a bad law.
