Biden Spending Thanksgiving At Billionaire’s Nantucket Home Shows He’s Out Of Touch

President Joe Biden will be spending Thanksgiving at the Nantucket home of a billionaire in private equity, with the GOP quick to criticize him for being out of touch with inflation.

The Bidens arrived on the Massachusetts island and will spend Thanksgiving at David Rubenstein’s compound. The Biden family has been celebrating Thanksgiving in Nantucket for decades, although it was canceled last year because of the pandemic.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving dinner costs survey, inflation is at a three-decade peak and the average Thanksgiving meal cost has increased more than 14% over last year. This is due to the fact that the average cost of a turkey has risen nearly 24% since last year. According to Labor Department data, the cost of chicken breasts has increased 26% in the last year. The industry has largely blamed the price rise on supply chain disruptions, high demand for food, and especially meat.

Peter Doocy questioned Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, Tuesday about the message Biden sends to the middle class through his time at the compound of a billionaire during the most expensive Thanksgiving ever.

Psaki downplayed the turkey price rise, saying that a 20-pound turkey was a big bird and that they cost only $1 more than last year. She said that is not to minimize that any increase in prices is something she is concerned about.

Biden’s trip has been criticized by both sides of the political spectrum, with conservatives being the most vocal. The Republican National Committee published a blog posting in which it criticized the president for being out-of-touch “limousine libertarian” who would “make Marie Antoinette proud.”

Ronna McDaniel, RNC Chairwoman, tweeted that as Biden celebrates Thanksgiving in ritzy Nantucket food pantries, people across the country are struggling with basic needs.

Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., tweeted that as the president rushes off to his Nantucket holiday, he’s leaving American families to struggle with skyrocketing costs and brutal energy crises. He went on to call it a total disaster.

Rep. Ken Buck tweeted that gas prices have risen dramatically and that Thanksgiving dinner would be more expensive this year. Journalists were not happy with the Bidens’ visit, with some critics pointing out that GOP Virginia governor-elect Glenn Youngkin was once a co-chief executive at Carlyle Group and resigned last year before announcing his candidacy.
