VP Harris Laughs Off A Question About The Afghanistan Crisis

Vice President Kamala Harris has found herself cackling again at a very inappropriate time. While the United States faces arguably the worst foreign policy crisis in American history, Harris finds it to be a laughing matter. Not a surprise with her record.

The first stop of Harris’ Southeast Asia trip was Singapore, where she was greeted by reporters asking questions. They were all calling her name for a question and one reporter started a question before being cut off by her.

“What’s your response to reports of Americans—” one reporter asked before being cut off by the vice president.

“Hold on, hold on. Slow down, everybody. Hahaha. Um, I want to talk about two things. First, Afghanistan — we couldn’t have a higher priority right now,” Harris chuckled.

The reporter was not even able to finish their question before Harris gave a response. She emphasized that getting Americans out of Kabul was a “high priority,” even though it does not seem that the Biden Administration has a plan for that. Official White House statements have continued to focus on combatting the COVID-19 pandemic rather than the border crisis or getting American and Afghan allies out of Afghanistan.

“We couldn’t have a higher priority right now. A particular high priority is making sure that we safely evacuate American citizens, Afghans who worked with us, Afghans at risk, including women and children, and that is one of our highest if not the highest priority right now,” Harris said.

It’s clearly not the highest priority either and the timing of the trip is uncalled for. Critics have said that her “swing through Vietnam” draws unwanted comparisons between the humiliating withdrawal there in 1975 and everything happening this week.

Former global engagement director Brett Bruen said Harris was “walking into a hornet’s nest” between what’s taking place in Afghanistan and the challenges of China. He said on a good day the Biden Administration is walking a tightrope and on a not-so-good day, they are walking a tightrope “while leading an elephant across.” There’s an enormous set of issues that Harris will run into as she makes her way throughout Southeast Asia.

The vice president has mocked everything happening in Afghanistan by refusing to make public appearances or speak much about the disaster. Harris’s previous trips to Guatemala and Mexico were also less than successful, with her PR team struggling to pick up the pieces.

The Biden Administration has been slow to respond, and even address, the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. While intelligence experts and President Biden previously talked about the Taliban not taking over, it only took them 11 days to capture nearly the entire country.

There’s nervous laughter and then there’s a full-blown Kamala Harris cackle. The situation in Afghanistan isn’t even worth the slightest giggle, as US citizens remain trapped and unable to get to the airport. Afghan women are burning their degrees and billions of dollars of American weaponry are being handed over to the Taliban. If this doesn’t send a message to the American people, then I don’t know what will.
