Here’s yet another story the left claims isn’t happening in America. A mother in Damariscotta, Maine is calling for the resignation of several public school officials after discovering that a social worker had begun helping her teenage daughter “socially transition” to the opposite sex behind her back.
The Maine Wire reported:
In an emotionally charged address to the school board, Amber Lavigne said a Central Lincoln County School System (CLCSS) social worker at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta provided a chest binder to her daughter — a gender transitioning device the employee encouraged the young girl to keep secret from her parents.
Lavigne said she’d never met the social worker — Samuel Roy — and had no idea school employees were secretly working to put her daughter on the path to gender transition. Other officials in the school also participated in the young girl’s social transition, using masculine pronouns to address her.
Chest binders are devices used by young girls who believe they are transgender to help them socially transition to the opposite sex. They are worn by these girls to conceal their growing breasts when they are dealing with symptoms of gender dysphoria. Proponents of this “treatment” claim it is beneficial for the mental health of young girls who are confused about their gender and is used as a prelude to surgical treatments in many cases.
Lavigne was aware that her daughter had been seeing a social worker in the school system. But in October, she was assigned to a new professional named Roy. She noted that “the chest binder was provided less than two weeks after her daughter first met Roy,” according to the report. The mother became further incensed after finding out that each member of staff involved in the matter will keep their jobs despite concealing their effort to transition her daughter without her knowledge.
“Under no circumstances should she have been provided a chest binder without the knowledge of her parents,” Lavigne said during the school board meeting.
“A social worker at the school encouraged a student to keep a secret from her parents,” she continued. “This is the very definition of child predatory sexual grooming. Predators work to gain a victims’ trust by driving a wedge between them and their parents.”
Not surprisingly, an educator in the school district named Chris Coleman spoke after Lavigne and defended the policy. He argued that people opposing this practice “have decided that our transgender students do not deserve to feel safe at school” and that the term “groomer” was an insult to teachers.
The report noted that Maine’s school officials have “denied providing gender-transitioning equipment like chest binders to public school students of any age” in the past.
Situations like Lavigne’s have become a hot-button issue in the state as parents clash with school districts over the teaching and promotion of transgender ideology in the classroom. Last month, the state’s Department of Education was reported to be considering measures allowing school officials to assist students experiencing gender dysphoria in transitioning to the opposite sex without informing or consulting parents.
School districts across the country have been adopting similar practices amid the national debate on transgender ideology in public schools. In states like Wisconsin, California, New York, and others, districts are instructing their teachers to conceal gender identities from parents. In many cases, educators and school staff are required to lie to parents about these matters unless the child consents to informing them.
While the midterm elections did not go as conservatives had hoped, school board races offered a silver lining. In many states, school boards flipped from left to right as conservative candidates ousted progressives school board members. In some cases, these new boards have already acted when it comes to rooting out problematic progressive ideology in the classroom.
Nevertheless, the battle is far from over. Progressives have not backed down in their efforts to indoctrinate children, and they will likely get even more aggressive now that they are receiving pushback. The victories in the elections are a positive sign that more people are finding out about what these people are trying to do to their children. But this problem needs more exposure if more people are going to get into the fight.
