Liberal Dark Money Group With Biden Admin Ties Capitalizes On SCOTUS Leak

To push for court expansion, a liberal dark money group tied to President Biden is using the leaked Supreme Court draft opinions to further their cause.

Demand Justice, the most active left-leaning judicial group, sent supporters an email Tuesday following the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion. It indicated that Roe V. Wade would not be overturned and said the “clearest solution to protect constitutional rights to abortion” was to expand the court.

Demand Justice wrote in an email that “The Republican party has read the writing on Wall and knows it can’t win the issues.”

The email stated that Republicans had rejected all issues that were supported by a large and consistent majority of Americans, including access to abortion and reproductive health care, as well as the need to develop a plan to address climate change.

The group called the Supreme Court Republican’s “insurance policy”, and encouraged its supporters to contact Congress and press them to end the filibuster, and to add four Supreme Court seats.

Demand Justice, which is headed by Brian Fallon (an ex-campaign staffer for Hillary Clinton), has direct ties with the Biden administration.

Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, served as an adviser outside to Demand Justice. Paige Herwig was also the point person for judicial nominations at Biden before she joined the administration.

Demand Justice began as an effort to discredit Republican judicial nominees and support Democratic nominees. Since then, Demand Justice has evolved to be more advocacy-based. For example, packing the Supreme Court and lower courts.
However, Democratic politicians attacked right-wing dark-money judicial groups. They also benefited from Demand Justice, which was shrouded with secrecy.

Demand Justice was launched in 2018 by the Sixteen Thirty Fund. It is a fiscal sponsor managed and administered by Arabella Advisors, a Washington, D.C.-based consultancy firm. This company oversees one the largest dark money networks.

However, the group was recently separated into its own legal entity. Due to its relationship with Sixteen Thirty Fund, and its recent separation from its nonprofit, its complete donor list is not known.

It hides its donors but the Open Society Policy Center, a liberal billionaire George Soros’s nonprofit, donated $2.6 million to Demand Justice at the time it was founded.
