Like X-Files agent Fox Mulder, I want to believe. I want to believe that the majority of our public servants have the country’s best interests at heart — even the ones who don’t share my political views. I want to believe that the people we entrust with great power have an appreciation for our Constitution and founding principles, a respect for the rule of law, and a conscience.
I want to believe that when FBI Director Chris Wray takes an oath and sits before Congress to answer questions pertinent to their lawful oversight of his agency, he’s sincere when he says he wants to work with them and address mistakes that were made and areas that need improvement. I want to believe him when he adamantly maintains that they aren’t intent on surveilling everyday citizens, Catholics, pro-lifers, concerned parents.
I want to believe…but I don’t. Not anymore. Far too many of our government overlords have shown time and again they’re not honest brokers and not operating in good faith. Take Hunter Biden and the mountains of evidence of his corrupt and criminal misdeeds. Take that along with the FBI’s seeming indifference — outright reluctance — to pursue a meaningful investigation (much less prosecution) of the president’s son and the interference they’ve seemingly run on his behalf. Instead of being among their Most Wanted — he’s their least.
They’ve broken our trust, and now they blame us and come after us for calling them on it while Hunter gets a pat on the head and a pass.
Feds: “It’s dangerous to democracy when people lose faith in our institutions.”
Feds: Lie, gaslight, lie, obfuscate, lie.
American people: “We don’t trust you anymore.”
Feds: “They mustn’t be allowed to express such skepticism. Censor them!”
