Parler Is Back Online After A Month Of Fighting Big Tech

The social media platform Parler announced its relaunch after being cut offline for more than a month by Amazon, Apple, and Google. Parler, which has more than 20 million users, was cut by Apple and Google app stores for failure to moderate “egregious content” related to the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot. Amazon also banned the site from its cloud hosting service. Big Tech had attempted to coordinate and censor conservative speech altogether, but that didn’t last long.

Parler returned with new hosting services and announced its new platform “is built on robust, sustainable, independent technology.” It has described itself as the “world premiere free speech platform” and is available immediately for current users. New users will be able to sign up for Parler starting next week.

Parler also appointed Mark Meckler as interim CEO with the exit of former CEO John Matze. Meckler is the president of Citizens for Self-Governance, a co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, and a leader in the Article V Convention of States movement. Parler’s executive committee is still conducting a search for a permanent CEO to lead the social network, but have reached delays caused by new branding and changes occurring within the company for the sake of stability.

“Parler was built to offer a social media platform that protects free speech and values privacy and civil discourse. When Parler was taken offline in January by those who desire to silence tens of millions of Americans, our team came together, determined to keep our promise to our highly engaged community that we would return stronger than ever. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back,” Meckler said.

Meckler said they would employ human editors and use artificial intelligence to police for illegal speech that violates its service agreement but remain true to its free speech and no censorship roots. Prominent users applauded Parler for fighting back against cancel culture, particularly conservatives fighting for freedom of expression, data sovereignty, and civil discourse.

“When Parler was taken offline in January by those who desire to silence tens of millions of Americans, our team came together, determined to keep our promise to our highly engaged community that we would return stronger than ever,” Meckler said.

He promised that Parler would thrive as the ‘premier social media platform’ and remain dedicated to free speech, privacy, and civil dialogue. He added that the team is “thrilled to welcome everyone back” and confirmed that the social media platform is “here to stay.”

So much for killing the competition, Big Tech.
