The GOP has warned House Democrats not to push and remove controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her posts, but they didn’t listen. The House of Representatives recently removed Greene in a 230-199 vote. 11 Republicans had joined Democrats in voting to relieve the freshman rep from her committee assignments.
Rep. Greene took to the House Floor in a 10-minute speech and apologized for some of the conspiracy theories posted on her social media accounts, specifically mentioning the 9/11 and Qanon conspiracy theories that she no longer subscribes to. She conveyed professionalism and walked back some of her social media postings that have caused a stir. “These were words of the past, and these things do not represent me. They do not represent my district, and they do not represent my values,” Rep. Greene said.
Rep. Green talked about being a “very regular American” who went down the wrong path with Qanon conspiracies after losing trust in the government and media. She mentioned that she never campaigned for any of the conspiracies she posted about.
“I was allowed to believe things that weren’t true and I would ask questions … and talk about them. And that is absolutely what I regret. If it weren’t for the Facebook posts and comments that I liked in 2018, I wouldn’t be standing here today,” Rep Greene added.
However, House Democrats argued that they were forced to take action and “uphold the standards of decency” after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy declined to pursue disciplinary action against her. They said her speech lacked any apology for endorsing violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and espoused anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim views. That’s the thing with liberals – when you can’t explain something, then you just call it racist.
McCarthy argued that penalizing members for statements and postings they made prior to entering Congress only deepens divisions within the House. Other members also agreed that stripping a person of committee assignments is considerably harsh, especially if the person took back most of their claims. You don’t see Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Eric Swalwell, or Maxine Waters being stripped of duties every time they get caught up in trending controversy on Twitter.
Sen. Lindsey Graham also expressed concerns over the vote and the long-term consequences that could arise from it.
“If successful, the partisan effort to strip @RepMTG of her committee assignments will set a terrible precedent for the House — with no end in sight. I hope her comments today will go a long way in turning down the temperature and allow us to focus on the important issues the American people want us to address,” he tweeted.
Where’s the aim at fake news, Big Tech, and Democrats for spreading disinformation, censoring conservative voices, and endorsing anti-police anti-American anarchists. Democrats never take responsibility for their actions – they just want everyone else too. They claim to be the party of unity while ousting everyone in their way.
