So 84-year-old Nancy Pelosi filed a Statement of Candidacy on Thursday with the Federal Election Commission, clearing the way for yet another run for Congress in the 2026 midterm elections. The question is whether the TDS-riddled former Speaker will actually run.
A spokesperson for Pelosi downplayed speculation, telling The San Francisco Standard that the filing is legally required when a campaign spends or raises more than $5,000 after Election Day.
Here’s how I see it at this early point.
Virtually everyone on the planet knows that Pelosi is hopelessly obsessed with President-elect Donald Trump. Her hatred for the man is visceral; you can see it on her face and hear it in her voice every time she mentions his name, or even vaguely refers to him. So, to intentionally use a double negative, I don’t think Pelosi can’t not run in 2026 if she feels she’s up to it. And, of course, as we’ve seen more times than we can remember, Nancy’s irrational “up to it” is a bit different, shall we say, than most people’s “up to it.”
Anyway, she looks pleasant, doesn’t she?
Poor thing. I can only imagine all those fitful nights of sleeplessness.
Trump’s decisive reelection, in my not so humble opinion, coupled with her late-stage TDS, drives virtually every political decision Pelosi makes. According to reporting from the San Francisco Chronicle, Pelosi suggested during a House Democrat Caucus call following the election that Democrats should replicate the work of a group created during the last Trump administration that focused on defending the Affordable Care Act. Remember her infamous admonition? “We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it.” How’d that work out, America?

Pelosi will, of course, be most remembered for ridiculously impeaching then-President Trump — twice — in what amounted to two unwarranted hissy fits. Both impeachments failed conviction in the Senate.
In a recent sometimes-snippy interview with The New York Times, Pelosi sneered, “I’m not here to talk about that,” when asked if she’d run for reelection in the 2026 midterms. She added:
I’m here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election. I must have thought I’ve had the last term over and over again, but as fate would have it, the mission called.
Yeah, well, Nancy, given that a president’s term lasts four years while congressional terms last just two years, it appears that you’ll have to strap on your running shoes just one more time. There’s no way you’ll kick yourself to the curb with the devil’s spawn still in the White House.
In addition to the nightmare — in Pelosi’s eyes — of Trump about to triumphantly return to the presidency, one wonders if she accepts any blame, even if she doesn’t admit it, for reportedly spearheading the palace coup against lame-duck President Joe Biden, and the Democrat National Convention coronation of Kamala Harris as the party’s standard bearer. I doubt it, but I do know that Pelosi has since blamed old Joe for not getting out of the race sooner.
Finally, despite Pelosi stepping aside as Speaker in 2022 to supposedly make room for younger leadership, here we are — and here she is.
It appears that the saying about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks is true.
