Megyn Kelly Just Shook Up the Media World With Blockbuster Announcement

If there’s anyone who has their finger on the pulse of the modern media world, it’s Megyn Kelly. And, now, she’s taking everything she learned from her days working at corporate media outlets like Fox News and NBC, along with lessons learned during her more recent foray into independent media, and creating her own podcast network.

Kelly announced the birth of MK Media on Tuesday morning, telling her audience that the exciting new venture will be a “podcast network of video and audio shows, which we are going to produce and help promote.” Kelly said they would be “launching with three out of the gate,” with the new shows set to premiere in April and May.

The first three personalities to make their home at MK Media are:

  • Mark Halperin, the seasoned political journo who launched his own media platform, 2Way, in 2024;
  • Maureen Callahan, a Daily Mail columnist who often joins Kelly to discuss pop culture and entertainment stories; and,
  • Link Lauren, a former advisor to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who will host a show focused on news and commentary.

Commented Kelly on her inaugural lineup:

“I’m thrilled to launch MK Media and to use our platform to help sane, reasonable, good-humored people build their own followings in this new media space,” says Kelly. “I am a huge fan of Mark’s, Maureen’s and Link’s and I know our audience will be as excited as I am to hear more from them.”

The announcement comes as much of the media world is still grappling—or, more likely, completely ignoring—with the reality that many consumers, especially younger people, go to trusted personalities for their news, not to legacy media sites and certainly not to dinosaurs like network news. We saw this play out spectacularly during the 2024 presidential election, as personalities like Joe Rogan and Theo Von became both go-to news sources for information on the campaigns and the holy grail for candidates who wanted to get their message out to those huge audiences.

It was a complete game changer.

The legacy media seem utterly confused by the landscape shifting rapidly beneath them, but Megyn Kelly clearly had no such qualms and ran with it. That’s why she’s expanding her media empire, while places like CNN and MSNBC are trying to dump their dead weight.

Kelly took a big gamble back in 2020 when she decided to enter the creator ecosystem after her stormy time at NBC came to an end. Having been labelled a “conservative journalist,” she was likely faced with the choice of going back for another stint at Fox News or blazing a path as an independent media personality. She, of course, chose the latter and has been wildly successful.

In between my stints writing here at RedState, I worked in ad sales for a few different conservative media companies, so I had a bird ‘ s-eye view of that particular landscape. I was a huge fan of Megyn deciding on going independent because an unfettered Megyn Kelly, absent the restraints of corporate contracts, was free to say whatever she wanted—and we all wanted to hear that!

There was a bit of “you go, girl” in there, too; a woman-owned media company in the conservative media space was a much-welcomed addition. Because modern media consumption relies so heavily on personalities, the decision by MK Media to invest in interesting people is going to pay off in spades. And not putting the content behind paywalls is the right call, as sponsors will love the reach and consumers will appreciate the access.

Megyn Kelly’s launch of MK Media isn’t just a savvy business move—it’s a statement. At a time when legacy outlets are floundering, Kelly is proving that independent media, driven by trusted voices rather than corporate interests, is the future.
