As RedState reported, Joe Biden’s trip to Florida on Tuesday to campaign for Democrat gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist was a total disaster. I know — try to control your shock and amazement.
Also not a shock: Republican Governor Ron DeSantis promptly ridiculed Biden, calling his Floria trip “an in-kind contribution to my campaign.” Crist, trailing by double digits, was not amused.
Biden was in Miami on Tuesday to urge voters to back Crist and Democrat Rep. Val Demings, who is challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, as reported by The Free Press. The RealClear Daily Average on Wednesday had Rubio over Demings at +7.5 percent.
As I suggested, Biden was his typical hot mess self.
Biden rolled out the usual Democrat shtick about Crist “fighting for working families,” blah blah blah, while also predictably taking shots at Florida’s popular governor that didn’t even come close to landing:
Charlie’s a guy you know and trust. He’s always fighting for working families. He was a great governor before and will be again, and they’re making him a greater governor again because of who he’s gonna be replacing.
Joe apparently doesn’t read the polls, gang.

Turns out DeSantis was at least as happy to see Biden stumping for Crist as was Crist, in effect thanking Biden for his visit — and then some — joking:
I think it’s an in-kind contribution to my campaign. I just want to make the offer publicly. We will underwrite him to stay in Florida for the rest of the campaign. If Joe wants to stay, it’ll be on our dime and we’d love for the people of Florida to be reminded that the Democrats in this state are with Biden 100% of the time.
One of the things I most admire about DeSantis is his intelligence and discipline while deftly attacking opponents, in contrast to “the other favored Republican” who’s all but announced his 2024 candidacy.
As for Crist himself, you almost gotta feel sorry for the guy. Then again, as we reported in August, when asked by CNN if he wanted Biden to campaign for him, Crist couldn’t have stuck his head any further been more effusive about the wonders of Joe Biden if he tried:
Absolutely. Listen, look what Joe Biden … has done for our country. He’s been exceptional. Look what he’s done for the world. What’s happening in Ukraine, bringing NATO together — new members to NATO — it’s remarkable. What other president could’ve done what he’s done? He’s been phenomenal. Gas prices are down. Inflation is trending down. Democracy is trending up.
I’m running against a guy who’s against democracy. He doesn’t support mail-in ballots; he doesn’t support African Americans and their right to vote. Joe Biden supports all of that. He’s a good man; he’s a great man. He’s a great president– I can’t wait for him to get down here. I need his help; I want his help. And he’s the best I’ve ever met.
Oh, please. Crist’s blatant lies aside, Biden hasn’t done squat for any of the above. To all of the above, yes.
OK, I take back the “almost gotta feel sorry for the guy” part. Sucking up to Joe Biden and his disastrous presidency is the last thing any Democrat running for office in the midterms should do.
Stupidly die on the Biden hill; win a stupid prize on November 8.
