Florida Sheriff Promotes Gun Safety Course For Residents To Shoot Home Invaders

After a homeowner shot multiple shots at an intruder Wednesday night, a Florida sheriff is encouraging people to learn gun safety. The individual who broke into multiple homes was stopped by the sheriff.

According to Pensacola Daily News, Brandon J. Harris (32), was taken into police custody after he allegedly broke into multiple homes in Pace, Florida. He was stopped by a homeowner, who fired several shots at him.

According to police, the call of the break-ins started to arrive at the sheriff’s offices around 4:30 p.m. Harris is facing charges of attempted burglary with assault and resisting arrest, criminal malchief, attempted theft, and other charges.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson stated in a press conference that Harris was shot by one of the homeowners. Johnson also said that Harris was taken into custody after being held in a home he allegedly broke into.

Johnson stated that “probably 20 deputies get to him, the dogs out, and he is jumping fences, breaking into houses and entering homes as he goes.” He was breaking into a house of one of the homeowners and they fired at him. He continued to run until we finally caught him in the house he had broken into on Tom Sawyer. We then took him to a bedroom.

Johnson encouraged residents to take gun safety classes and said that anyone breaking into their home is “more than welcome to” shoot them.

“It seems they believe they did something wrong. Santa Rosa County is more than happy to shoot anyone who attempts to break into your home. Actually, we prefer you to do so. If you were that person, we are not in danger. Come see us. Johnson stated that we have a gun safety course every Saturday.

According to the sheriff, residents who complete the course will be able to shoot a gun much better and possibly save taxpayers money.

Johnson stated, “If you do that, you will shoot better and hopefully save the taxpayers money.”

Johnson described Harris as a frequent flyer, noting that Harris has been arrested 17 times previously.

“Frequent flyers are something I talk about all the time. He was only 13 years old when we first met him. Johnson stated that he has been arrested 17 times since then. “We sent him into prison for six-and-a-half years for home invasion. He just couldn’t grasp the concept that crime doesn’t pay.”
