Tesla CEO and co-founder Elon Musk wondered aloud via Twitter if another platform was needed. His millions of followers urged him to purchase the social media giant.
Musk tweeted Saturday, “Given Twitter serves as de facto the public square, failing to adhere free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.” What should we do?
Musk then asked in a follow-up, “Is there a need for a new platform?”
Musk’s 79.1million followers immediately called him to buy Twitter or create a new platform.
Musk’s original post, asking his followers to suggest what they should do about Twitter censorship, was retweeted more than 10,000 times and liked over 62,000 per hour after it was posted.
Conservatives have long criticized Twitter for its censorship of free speech. This includes this week, when Twitter placed warning labels on articles published in The Federalist that it declared “may not be safe.”
Twitter removed the warning labels later and informed Fox News Digital that it had “mistakenly” flagged the posts.
Twitter participated in the suppression of New York Post’s explosive reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop during the last weeks of the 2020 presidential campaign. This was verified by The New York Times last Wednesday.
