Dr. Anthony Fauci, Biden’s top medical adviser, recently shared that children who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine should continue wearing masks when school resumes this fall. He told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that parents can keep their children safe by going back to the original guidelines for school this fall.
“OK, so if you go back to the original CDC guideline, which says that [if] you’re a vaccinated parent or a grandparent, and you have an unvaccinated child in the home, in the home setting, absolutely, you don’t need to wear a mask, you could have physical contact. When the children go out into the community, either indoor or in certain outdoor settings, they should wear a mask if they’re unvaccinated. When they ultimately get vaccinated, it will be the same as the adults,” Fauci said.
He said that students should “absolutely” resume in-person instruction this fall but continue to wear masks while Pfizer submits emergency authorization applications to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to widen vaccine eligibility to children 2 to 11. The CDC website also states that people age 2 and older should continue to wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in their household. Fauci adds that he can “almost guarantee” that most schools will require masks for students who have not been vaccinated.
“The only thing that’s changed is that people who are vaccinated, fully vaccinated can now not wear a mask, not only outdoors, but also indoors. What hasn’t changed is what’s going on for the unvaccinated group. And of the unvaccinated group of elementary school children, nothing has really changed for them. I think that’s the thing we need to clarify,” Fauci said.
Sen. Rand Paul appeared on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” to respond to Fauci’s statements regarding children wearing masks and said that he probably has the highest IQ for someone who “acts like an ignoramus” every day of the week. He said that if Fauci wants kids to mask up and wear masks every day, then he should show the American people the science.
“I mean, really? Kids don’t get this disease. When they do get it, it’s a mild form. They don’t transmit it well. We’ve got two years’ worth of evidence on this. We don’t have a rash of deaths [in kids aged] 1-10, 1-18. They [the CDC] still have their camp provision. They want them going around camp, doing the 6-foot stuff. There’s no science behind it. It’s all conjecture, it’s all Tony Fauci, his way or the highway, Mr. Little Dictator,” Paul said.
Paul recently went after Fauci during a Senate committee hearing over grants by the National Institutes of Health to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for gain-of-function research, in which coronavirus may have emerged. While Fauci claimed that the NIH has never funded gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute, he said he would be in favor of an investigation to see if COVID-19 came from the Wuhan lab.
There has been a handful of comments made, including one by former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, that the coronavirus was created in the Wuhan lab.
But forget the mask, Fauci stopped being relevant a long time ago. Science has been on the side of ditching masks and getting back to normalcy. Just ask the mask-free states and their plummeting case numbers and hospitalization rates. Meanwhile, strict mask-mandated states like New York and Michigan continue to struggle with rising cases and upset Americans. The science is in the numbers, not the politician who said it.
